Singapore faces negligible tsunami risks
This article actually talks about the minimal impact of tsunami, underwater earthquakes to Singapore, even though it's on a 9 Richter scale. It's highly unlikely for the strong waves to reach Singapore, due to the narrow and shallow strait of Malacca, and the shallow waters around Singapore, which allows the waves to slow down before hitting Singapore, which causes minimal impact to our island, and will not be life-threatening. But people will still be evacuated, if the alert is sounded, to keep away from beaches.
It's really fortunate of us, to stay in a country, where we are free from natural disasters, or we don't really experience them here. While the people in China experiences earthquakes, the people in India hit by the tsunami, we are happily in Singapore, not affected by anything. However, we shouldn't take for granted what we have, maybe someday Singapore would still be struck by some disaster, thus, we should still take precaution. We should not take too lightly, or think that disasters would never strike this island. We should still be prepared if ever anything untoward happens to us and Singapore.
