1) In my opinion, the punishment given to the NSF was quite reasonable. If not for Justice Tay Yong Kwang he would not have gotten 9 years and 2 months’ jail with 18 strokes of the cane. He could have been jailed for up to 14 years at most.

Firstly, the NSF was not in the right state of mind. He had parents who did not much care about his well being. His father was often in jail and his mother was a gambler who beat him and then abandoned him by running away with his sister even before he was 9. He also lost his brother who was 2 years younger than him in an accident when he was only 14. Also, he lost his grandmother who was diagnosed with cancer last December. And now, the break-up with his girlfriend has made things worst by affecting him mentally. Since young, he was not brought up properly and he did not get the love that he needed and when he did have someone to shower him with all the love for 3 years, that person is no longer a part of his life.

How much can a person take in one go? With no one to turn to for help or advice, Teo suffered in depression. All this has caused him to steal the rifle and maybe it could have been just to kill himself and no one else since he was in a disturbed state of mind and his psychiatrist said that he was reclusive and self destructive. All in all, I guess, Teo did go through some harsh times in his life and being badly affected by it has caused him to take a wrong turn in his life. This 9 years and 2 months’ jail prisonment is only fair for him to relax and not worry about anything. When he is in a right state of mind, he should take most of his free time to reflect about his doings and hopefully when he comes out of jail, he would be a better person and turn a new leaf.

2) The sale of organs has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Firstly, every organ in our body is very important to us as, without them, we wouldn’t be able to function well. However, just like how a machine needs oil when any of its parts become rusty, a human needs organ transplant if any of their organs fail. Unfortunately, organs aren’t as easy to get as how oil can be bought.

When the sales of organs are made legal, patients in need for an organ transplant can easily get it instead of dying while waiting for a suitable owner. However, as I said before, it does have its own disadvantages. As said in the newspaper article on “India gets tough on organ transplants”, many poor farmers and labourers had been duped into selling their kidneys for paltry sums. Farmers and labourers do not earn much. They are sacrificing themselves just for money and in turn they get cheated. I don’t think the farmers and labourers should be as desperate and not think before they do something.

In conclusion, I feel that the sale of organs should not be made legal as poor families may get cheated of their lifes just for money.
