Cyber bullies turn vicious:

A 2006 survey found that a quarter of 3’488 Singaporean students polled had been victimized by cyber cullies.

The rising popularity of social net working sites such as Facebook and MySpace, YouTube videos as well as multi-media messages has made the humiliation of victims more widespread and more immediate than ever.

In Singapore, students commonly band together in blogs and social net-works to intimidate victims. Aims recommended that an annual fund and agency be set up for the protection of minor.

In my opinion, increasing cases of cyber bullies in Singapore is concerning. Students who are victims of cyber bully should seek help from parents or teachers as soon as possible as they might not handle it appropriately. Cyber bullies, if identified, should be referred to counselors immediately to prevent more students from suffering mentally. Parents should keep a close watch on what their children are doing online because it will certainly reduce the chances of their children being cyber bullied, vise versa. I believe they do not want to see children jumping off roofs because of cyber bullies.

Many cyber bullies not only target at their classmates, but at the people they dislike too. For example, they might take down what they deem obscene videos of their teachers they dislike during lessons and post them in their blogs. Many cyber bullies carry out irresponsible actions like this as they very much enjoy the attention they having, but fail to be aware of the disastrous consequences behind it.

In conclusion, it is our advantage that we have easy access to the internet and we should not abuse it. Instead, we should use it for a good and sensible purpose, like researching about things we just learnt in lessons and etc.
