Foreign Worker Dorms
Title: "LIVE AND LET LIVE"
Residents react, as 10 new sites for temporary housing unveiled

My Thoughts:
Basically, this article is revolving around Singapore's goverment and the residents of Queenstown. 10 new sites for temporary housing of foreign workers were unveiled, however only 2 of 10 sites named are near residential areas. Not long ago, there was the "Serangoon Gardens episode" when the news was leaked out prematurely and lead to misunderstanding among the residents.

However, this time round, the Ministry of National Development (MND) and some Member of parliament have spent months consulting grassroots leaders and advisers to identify and manage concerns. Some of these concerns raised include the fact that residents felt unsafe because the foreign workers may get drunk at the void decks of residential areas and make noise. Furthermore, there are many children in Queenstown as mentioned and i believe most parents simply do not feel safe with the foreign workers loittering around the void decks especially when their children are walking back home at night.

Through these discussions, the government has decided to implement measures such as having a dormitory curfews to prevent littering and disorderly behaviour from the foreign workers. Also, issues such as the workers' transportation are still in midst of discussion.

Personally, I know that the residents may feel uneasy and do not trust the foreign workers. However, if we are able to put ourselves in the foreign workers' shoes, would they feel good to be treated this way after doing all the tough jobs that WE do not want to do. What's more, they have abandoned their homeland to come here so that they could earn enough money to support their family. And what are we supposed to do should Singapore not have any foreign workers? Who would construct all the buildings we are living in?

One done, 3 more articles and 2 more books to read:/
