Book Review 2

Book title: Remember Me
By Sophie Kinsella

It's not exactly a book about romance.

The story is about a woman, Lexi, who wakes up in a hospital bed after a car accident, thinking it's 2004 and she's a twenty-five year old. In actual fact it's actually 2007 and she's twenty-eight. When she was twenty-five, she had crooked teeth and a disastrous love life. But after she joined a television programme to succeed in life, she straightened her teeth, became the boss of her department, caught the eye of a good-looking millionaire and got married.

She would later learn that she did not like the life she had. The best friends she had when she was 25 became colleagues at work who would gossip behind her back. The television programme that she took part in is similar to The Apprentice, and sometimes to win the competitions, some of the participants would turn nasty and scheming. Lexi was that type of people who wanted to win and succeed in life for once. Her husband was one of the judges on the show and he fell in love with the Lexi in the show. But deep down, Lexi is not like that at all, so when she woke up as a 25 year old, she did not like herself at all. She did not enjoy the company of her friends and did not know how she got to like her husband.

After about halfway through the book, Lexi discovers that she had an affair with another guy. It was a shock for her because she had never thought of herself betraying her husband, even if the husband was too boring for her. However, with this affair she could finally assure herself that deep down inside she did not really become the person that every one else hated.

Lexi then decided to forgo her new self and go back to being the Lexi who did not do so well in life. By doing that, she can keep her old friends and be a person she likes herself.

I feel that this book is special because it starts a fairytale but does not end that way. She woke up and had her life seemingly perfect but it is not in actual fact. This book brings us back to reality, and telling us that life is not like chapters in fairytales. It is not typical, like the prince with a lot of money fell in love with a peasant with no money and live happily ever after.

I think guys would not enjoy this book quite as much as girls would.
