Book title: Fiasco-The American Military Adventure in Iraq
Synopsis: OK let me be clear. This book is not a fiction-driven story, instead it's full of politics and stuff which you may not comprehend(sorry if this is condenscending).
What's the main thing you would expect from this book? Conspiracy theories about America in invading Iraq. Dating back to 1991, which was the year the first gulf war happened, the book tells you how it led to a second gulf war and why. Was it really because of the Iraqis that America went to war with them, or were there some dealings under the table?
It also describes the actual events which happened at ground zero(Iraq). In actual fact, there was no WMDs(Weapons of Mass Destruction) in Iraq, when that was the reason why America went to war. It may seem like the Bush administration are all war-mongers, but really, it wasn't just George W. Bush fault, for it was his administration wich persuaded hime to go to war. Yet the administration didn't have a drawn-out plan on what to do with Iraq after its occupation, costing America 4000 men and women, not forgetting the number of Iraqi casualties.
Pros: Very enticing. Never before had I looked at the war at such a perspective, like how America was wrong on its foreign policy. It's also quite easy to follow, as the main idea behind this book is that America was at fault.
Cons: Of course, this book is a one-sided book, claiming that the Bush administration had made a terrible mistake, so don't expect to see this phrase, namely:"Bush has made the right choice". Sure, many people condemn the war, but Bush is the president, and no president of the US would want to do more harm than good to the US right?
To summarise it all, I recommend this book to people who have a interest in the political movements of the Bush administration and who think that the Iraq war was a costly mistake. Other than that, don't read this if you aren't a fan of politics.
"Based on his interviews and eyewitness accounts from hundred of soldiers at all levels of command, this is veteran Thomas Rick's account of exactly what happened on the ground, and how Iraq descended into hell."
