School is.....

School is where we start training to adapt to the 'outside' world in the future.

In school, we first get to know of people we have never met before and we even have to work with them. In school and in society, we will get to meet people who are difficult. Either difficult to understand, difficult to work with or difficult to communicate with. School is a training ground because most of the people we meet in school would be straightforward. They either show you a black face or say what they think straight at your face. But in the 'outside' world, people may not always seem so direct! People in work can smile at you and secretly back-stab you to achieve their means, to be promoted to a higher level or to gain credit for work they may not have done. By learning how to manage with the difficult people in school now, you would then have a rough idea of who you may meet in the future and how you can try to work with them.

In school, we may get criticized by peers or teacher for not doing our work properly or showing a bad attitude to them. In the 'outside' world, we will surely face the same problems too! Be it being scolded by our supervisors when we have not done our job well or being discriminated by our peers who think we may seem unfriendly or too 'hungry' for success to neglect working together with them. In school, we have to work with many different people and under adults who supervises us we should be able to adapt to the kind of situation we might face when we go outside to work after schooling.

In school, we would have to follow instructions and time-table. Similarly, at work we would have to follow instructions and do the work accordingly and adhere strictly to the 'time-table'. For example, if our working hours are from 7 in the morning to 7 in the evening, we do not come later or leave earlier. We have to follow the time that we are instructed to work. Therefore, in school we get used to carrying an empty stomach all around until recess time and stay put in class until the after-school bell rings and then we are free.
