Title: Piggy Banks Flying Of Shelves
Date: 4 Jan 2009
Section: The Straits Times (World)
Summary
There has been a sudden flocculation in the sale of piggy banks in United States during the holiday session. 'We have been selling coin banks really well,' said Ms Laura Kellner at Kikkerland Design Inc in New York City, whose stylish chrome pig is priced at US$31 (S$44). The US has seen a sharp increase in saving 'People were very upfront about the need to save...the pig is very symbolic of that sentiment,' she said.
My thoughts
I feel that the move from spending to saving is a very good one for the US citizens especially during this time of difficulty where companies are retrenching people so that they would not have the need to declare bankruptcy. This is a difficult time for everyone and we all should adopt what is happening and cut expenditure and start saving today.
