Title: Troops seize alleged Mumbai mastermind

Overview: Pakistani troops have raided the militant Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters, seizing the alleged mastermind of the terrorist attack in Mumbai last month. More than a dozen people, including Lashkar’s top militant commander, Zaki ur Rahman, the man accused of planning the Mumbai attack, were taken from the “charitable foundation” Lashkar had morphed into following its ban in Pakistan. The firm action from Islamabad comes after strident warnings from New Delhi and Washington. News leaks from Washington, denied by Islamabad, had earlier suggested that the US and India set Pakistan a 48-hour deadline to move against the militants or face the consequences. The white house yesterday said Pakistan had taken “some positive steps”. New Delhi demanded that the Pakistanis hand over the people involved, a demand Mr Zardari may find politically unacceptable even if Pakistan’s all-powerful army agrees to such a deal.

Reflections: I think that the raid done by the Pakistani troops should be done long ago and not have waited this long, after the Mumbai terrorist attacks have happened. On 26 November gunmen began a series of co-ordinated and multiple attacks that lasted for three days. They targeted two luxury hotels and other landmarks in the city of Mumbai . All the major attacks began at 2120 local time. This attack killed many people and was made worst by the India’s slow reaction against it. It took almost nine hours for the anti-terrorist teams armed with weapons to reach the scene. This was heavily criticized by the US and the rest of the world. India believes that its neighbouring country, Pakistan, is home to the members of the terrorist group which is responsible for the Mumbai attacks. After the Mumbai terrorist attacks, the relationship between India and Pakistan is getting from bad to worse. I hope that Pakistan will do its best in eliminating the terrorists groups in the country.
