Title: Flyer Drama!!!!!!!!
Date: ST 24/12/2008
Section: Prime page 1

Overview:
Ferris's wheel do have a time when there is a breakdown in its electrical supply. This happened to the Singapore Flyer yesterday and more than 173 people were trapped in the megastructure in Singapore. The wheel stopped spinning at about 4.50pm and about three hours later the first passengers-five Malaysian tourists-were lowered usin grope harnesses from the one of th elowest suspended capsules.
Reflections:
I personally feel that the Singapore flyer should really investigate this case thoroughly to find any faults during the daily operations. This is because, since the $240 million Singapore Flyer started operations in February, it has stalled three times and it was a different fault every time.
Singapore Flyer, as a tourist attraction in the country, attracts millions of tourists and locals visiting each year. If the council of the Flyer do not consider the consequences of the engine halt, not only will the passengers be trapped in the capsule for hours, it will seriously affect our reputation in the world. What really alarmed me is actually the staffs of the Singapore Flyer do not take immediate action to the breakdown and when trapped tourists pressed the telecom to know what was going on, they were not given sufficient updates. This is in fact a serious flaw in the management of the Singapore Flyer and as a Singaporean, i will not take the Singapore Flyer until improvements are seen.
