Date : 14 December 2008
Section: thesundaytimes, home, page 6

Summary:

Many bus firms are installing devices to ensure the safety of the passengers and the drivers in the bus. The director of Transtar Travel installed a web-based tracking device on all bus. From his office, he can track how fast they are going, their location and whether the drivers jam their brake unnecessarily. The authorities in Malaysia are urging operators to install global positioning system devices to rack buses. The manager of luxury Tours and Travel said that most accidents happen at night. Safety will always be compromised at night, no matter how careful you are. Many bus firms have come up with safety measures, for example, two drivers on board for trips beyond 350km.

Reflection:

Last week, 10 people were killed and 18 were injured when a Singapore-bound bus travelling from Ipoh. To prevent such accidents, bus companies are doing many things to ensure the safety of passengers and retain customers. I think drivers should be rewarded when they did a good job, so as to motivate and encourage them. Drivers are very important; the lives of the passenger are in the driver's hands. Breaks should be included in bus trips especially long bus trips, so that bus drivers can rest before they continue the journey.
