Article: Will shopping vouchers do the trick?
The Strait Times, Page A18
Just a little overview:
Now the economy is down due to some reasons which I still do not understand. People are being retrenched, food prices are going up and electricity bills are going up. All this causes people to keep their pockets tight. Thus to help boost the economy with the help of people spending more at shopping malls, shops in Taiwan have decided to give more discount and vouchers so as to encourage more people to stop hiding and start shopping. Even though this my really help do the trick, some still believe that using shopping vouchers to attract more customers will not work due to them thinking that people might in the end ended up using the vouchers to buy daily necessities, hence reducing the multiplier effect of spending.
Reflection:
Many shopping centres in Singapore have also adapted to the bad economy by using the “discount” method which will definitely attract Singaporean to shop. I believed this will help to stimulate the economy as with more people willing to spend, shops will not suffer a loss and this will creates a chain reaction to boost the economy.
I will surely welcome those shopping vouchers to my wallet as it will surely cut down my spending by a lot, just like what it will did to others. Hence I really believe that shopping vouchers will do the trick as long as prices will not continue to rise. “If they rise, that will be another subject to talk about.”
Just some ‘pain relievers’ for you all out there. Oil prices are currently dropping, electricity fare will drop by next January, Obama is really doing all that he can do along with the rest of the world leaders to save this economy and always look on the bright side of life!
