'BUS MOVES OFF WITH GIRL'S LEG TRAPPED IN DOOR'
The Straits Times
section A?
--------------------------------------------------------
A 4 year old girl was trapped between the door of a bus with her body on the outside and her left leg on the other side of the door. The driver said that it was an accident as he drove off for about a metre before stopping the vehicle when her grandmother banged on the door. The grandma held on to her as the vehicle moved, prevented her from getting dragged on her body but she herself suffered scratches and cuts on her knees. The girl has a fractured leg after the ordeal. What was more frustrating was that the bus driver did not accompany them to await for ambulance but rather told them to take a taxi and that he have to carry on to ferry his passenges.i'm appalled by his reaction and thoughts as this shows that he is very irresponsible.I think that if he had taken the girl to hospital immediately instead of continuing his work, the passenges on board will certainly agree to take another bus.Although it was an accident, he was the cause of it so it is natural to help them out and compensate her.He had put his top priority on his passenges, which was totally wrong. How long could a four year old girl hold the acute pain on her leg?If her ganny was not there, she could have hurt her face and body after being dragged on the road. After this incident,it will cause a big trauma to the little girl. However,we must put ourselves in the driver's shoes. The driver might not be able to see the little girl walking down the steps so he assummed he could close the door. Her granny should also hold her hand as she is still young. But all in all,the driver was still to be blamed for not being responsible and taking care of the girl's safety.i think he should be suspend from his duties and should reflect on his actions.
