Title: Singaporeans more pessimistic

Summary: SINGAPOREANS are now more pessimistic about how long they can survive financially if they lose their jobs, according to the latest survey by insurance group AIA. Only 19 per cent think they could go more than two years without their main source of income, compared to a more confident 27 per cent in last year's poll, AIA said on Tuesday. Part of the reason is that Singaporeans' savings have been eroded by sky-high inflation over the last year, which has eased only slightly in recent months despite the economic slowdown.
"With rising inflation over the past year, funds that have been set aside for the long term may now only manage to last for less than a year," AIA said.

Reflection: One of the reasons for this to happen is because that Singaporeans are increasingly worried about having enough money to retire. This shows the unique character of Singaporeans which is ‘kia’-scared. Many panic for their lives after retirement. They feel lost and helpless after leaving the society that they had stayed in for the past few decades. In this case, they should prepare for their lives after retirement before the retirement by having their own annuities and other retirement plans. After preparing for your future, having goals and aims, you would worry lesser for the future and be less pessimistic. For one to be less pessimistic after retirement, family’s support is also important. At that period of time, other family members should spend more time with them because this is when they will feel the disgusting boredom.
