Article: 120 die in Mumbai carnage
Reporter:Am I live? Am I good to go? How do I look, great? C'mon just tell me, is there a pimple? Oh gosh, oh no, stop rollling...we're on? Ok, here goes...
What potentially could be the 9/11 for India just happened on the streets of Mumbai. Terrorists have struck the financial heart of India, forcing many to flee. Soldiers have arrived to blockade the areas and shelter the civilians. Right now we have confirmation that at least 125 people are dead and 300 more wounded.
Security officials say the terrorists are aged between 17 and 20 and are believed to be members of an Islamic militant group called the Deccan Mujahideen. Cool and composed, these young men sieged many buildings, including the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower hotel. They even bombarded a railway station with grenades, adding 10 people to the death toll. With the terrorists are hostages, many of them foreigners and executives. There has been commando raids but whether the raids were successful or not is for us to know. Many countries, including the US, have condemn the attack. These countries too pledge to help the Indian prime minister deal with this ordeal. Back to you KS.
KS: Umm thanks er..whoever you are... please do mind your insecurity levels though...Now with me is terrorism analyst Mr me. Mr me what kind of reflections do you have on the attacks?
Mr me: Thanks KS. Now you have to know ,this wasn't your average car-bomb incident. This was a well-coordinated attack by terrorists who manage to siege a whole town in less than 12 hours.I feel thath India had better beef up its security forces in the future, for if even Mumbai, the financial centre of India, can be overrun by terrorists, can you wonder what'll happen in the suburbs. Of course, I strongly condemn such an attack, for no one can justify the killing of innocent people. Although so far 129 people have died, this proves a point; terrorism is still very much alive. If you think America has forced terrorists to retreat to the lawless regions of Afghanistan, then you are very wrong. Terrorism is a global issue, and probably thanks to the global financial crisis, this issue was largely ignored till now. Al-Qaeda is just one terrorist group, but like other terrorists, their main purpose is to use terror as a means of coercion. Whether their purpose was a religious goal or just to inspire fear among targeted citizens, any terrorist is a threat.
What I hope now is that the new Obama administration can work with global partners to tackle issues like terrorism. What I propose is for American forces, along with allies, to launch an offensive in Afghanistan, especially areas near the Afghan-Pakistan border, for that is Al-Qaeda's haven. Once Al-Qaeda(of the Taliban) is destroyed, go on and help countires like INdai with such problems, for if the US were to ever restore its global status, she had better start by helping other countries. Other countries have a role to play, so I'd really like to see more international cooperation between nations.
KS: Thank you Mr me. We shall take a quick break. Coming up, we have tips for students who just study too much on how to get their lives back. Stay tuned to KSNS(KS News Stations) we'll be right back.
