Book Review Two
Title: The Subtle Knife
Author: Philip Pullman
Summary:
In The Subtle Knife, protagonist Lyra Belacqua journeys through the Aurora to Cittàgazze, an otherworldly city whose denizens have discovered a clean path between worlds at a far earlier point in time than others in the storyline. Cittàgazze's reckless use of the technology has released soul-eating Spectres, rendering much of the world incapable of transit by post-adolescents. Here Lyra meets Will Parry, a twelve-year-old boy originating from the readers' world. Will, who recently killed a man to protect his ailing mother, has stumbled into Cittàgazze in an effort to locate his long-lost father, the explorer John Parry.
Reflection:
This book not only talks about Lyra but also focus on Scoresby. I think I really should highlight this part as while trying to help Grumman who will be able to help Lyra Scoresby actually died. And I read this part of the story for like three times and each time I read it I cried. It is that touching! This kind of storyline may have appeared everywhere but not every one make me cry! The author write out the scene, the emotions and the description is even better than the first book. Because this time I seem to be watching a movie, every shots that Scoresby take, every shots he fire seem to be playing right in front of me. And when he lies on the ground with his deamon, he seems to be so peaceful yet I can imagine that he must be so bloody and cold. The love story between him and the witch is also just enough to let me understand but not too over to make me feel mushy and feel that the whole thing is out. Another part I would like to highlight is the part that Will found out that Grumman is his father but it was already too late as the witch came to kill his father just when he know. I think I was very affected by that part of the story as the kinship between this father and son is very deep yet so far. They know one another but they were never close to each other. I think this is the part that touches me a lot and it teach me to treasure my love ones before it is too late. This book is highly recommended by me to read. So do read it!:D
