the video was very interesting and enriching...this changed my views on globalization!!!children slavery and the human acts are despicable!childre slavery, forced to produce goods, with harsh working conditions and little pay.i think that sometimes the people are very selfish just to get their hands on what they want.they'll do anything to earn profits.people only think abt wat they want and don't care about the people around them, the effects and consequences that will happen.for eg, the polluted rivers that were dirtied by the irresponsible factories and this affects the villages that depends on the river for water. Globalization may also have social effects such as changes in sexual inequality, and to this issue brought about a greater awareness of the different types of gender discrimination throughout the world.-andrea

Before this video,I have already been thinking about how globalisation have been affecting the world and couldn't reach a conclusion. Now with this video, i finally know...
To think that just to earn more money, BIG companies all over the world are actually forcing people around the world to make the product that they sell in such bad conditions! To think that those poor peple had to work for more than twelve hours and under harsh conditions just to earn a such a little amount of money! Not only this! Those irresponsible companies actually destroy the environment by dumping toxin substances into rivers and the forest just to save a little amount of money used to hire workers. To bring this topic even further.Just to make work easier companies nowaday are using more machines to produce more products within the same period of time than using work force. Therefore resulting in more fumes being release and cause air pollution and then global warming. people reading this may think that it does not affect us.But in fact, it HAS already affect the WORLD! sea levels are rising, polar bears are dying, jellyfish are increasing and upsetting the ecosystem under water, small island are being under the sea and MORE! So my conclusion is that globalisation is NO GOOD! :(

This video really changed my views of globalization, before viewing this video, i did not think much about globalization, but now i think that big companies like nike and others are too much, they are forcing people to work like slaves with salary that can barely be enough for their family. After being forced to work in bad conditions like, not being able to visit the washroom, not being able to drink water and some are even being shocked by electric shock batons for not working hard enough. This tells us that, in order to get huge profits, they can do anything evil. Not thinking of the consequences like polluted water bodies, where underwater animals live. Children are even told to carry heavy objects and used as sex slaves with such an young age of 12-13. There is not equal treatment between the genders, mainly attacking the young girls and women. Companies did not think of the side effects they might have when the young girls or boys grow up, didn't they?
Globalization is a very bad thing to happen and yet it has happened, and nobody is stopping it.

Before the video, I do not know anything about Globalisation. But from the video, I can see all the negative side of Globalisation. To produce the goods on time, the employers make their workers work for very long hours; furthermore, their pays are very little. How can those workers get enough money for their daily life??
I was quite shocked to see the amount of salary the workers from "Nike" get. One pair of shoes sometimes cost more than $100, but what does those workers get? Yea,they are only paid sixteen cents per day! They still need to endure verbal and sexual abuse. Due to the ‘harsh’ condition they work in, they even collapse due to heat, fume and exhaustion.
Aren’t people too selfish? Just to get what they want, which is money, they treat the workers as slaves. They use electric shock batons and even forbid them to go to toilet or drinking of water. x.x
One of the pictures shows a little boy carrying many bricks, he is only so young and yet he can, or rather he has to carry so much bricks!
What’s more horrible is that 68% of children have sex with a foreigner. They are only between 12 to 13 years old! The aim of this is for the growth of global economy. This is so ridiculous, have they ever spare a though for those children? What will happen to those children when they grow up??? All they care about is the growth of the economy. -.-

What can we do then? We do not have rights to stop all these, right!?

(I hope I am not out of point >.< )

thank you for explaining the meaning of globalisation for us! this video is something new for me...

before watching this videos i've seen movie clips on the positive side of globalisation. it is something about countries able to earn big bucks through the globalisation. once, i saw a very emotional student that was being asked on the same question cried on youtube and i had no idea why he was crying until now.

as mentioned above, globalisation IS a very quick way to earn big money. it IS a good way for people all over the world to learn about each other's culture.

however, there is always a negative side of everything. many think that it's inhumane. workers from poorly developed parts of the country are paid at very low rates to do tough jobs, or jobs that will pose a health threat to them.

now i know why that boy on youtube cried. he cried for the suffering people; he cried for the pain a person can actually do to another just for his own gain, when the other person, like him, have his own dignity and feelings.

is globalisation all good or no bane? i do not think that there's an specific answer to this question. there are always people supporting their views and we cannot just shoot down their opinions like that as two parties have their own reasonable reasons for their opinions.

however, in my point of view, i do not support globalisation. i'd rather live in poverty than to let others suffer just to let me enjoy life. i believe in equality. each human should be treated the same way, regardless of colour, regardless of status, regardless of gender.

i hope my views are not too self-centered?

I don't think that companies should employ underage workers for such little money for a day or hour. They don't deserve such treatment, they should increase the pay to those in developed countries like hundred dollars plus?

Government of undeveloped countries should also reinforce laws against such activities. How come they are not doing any prevention activites?Maybe, they are only focusing on the amount of money the government will be earning?

I think that globalisation is a bane. Even though, Kayin say that it will bring in profits and a a good way to learn about other countries' culture. Companies should not always think of ways to increase their profits. They should at the same time, think about human rights. BOOOOOOOOOO!!

I think that globalisation is very important and allows the world to have communication and peace. Without globalisation, the world will be full of wars and I would not be able to purchase a laptop to type this comment. Almost all our material needs and wants come to us through globalisation. Singapore would'nt be as today without globalisation.
Think a bit, world war II might not have happened if the world is more globalised back then. With globalisation, countries are being more friendlier to each other and would not think of fighting or creating conflicts.
Governments in less developed countries should control companies which uses slavery and force to drive workers to work.
Nevertheless, globalisation is important to the world to differentiate a modern man and a caveman.
Globalisation is essential to the earth and it will ever be!

I think Globalisation is very important to the more developed countries. It makes everything much more convenient and we can communicate even though miles apart.

However, with Globalisation and developed countries getting even more developed, less developed countries(Indonesia, Vietnam eg) are suffering.

In the video, it says that companies are investing in less developed countries to safe cost and earn more money. I feel that this is very unfair as all the work are not done by them yet they got all the profit while people work so hard for them and only earned that little amount of money.

Also, the workers are working in toxic environment. They can't quit their jobs as they need them to support their families. They should at least have the rights to work in a clean and healthy environment right?

This is a very interesting video. In the past I've only thought of globalisation as the people of the world unified into a single society and functioning together to make this a better world. After watching the video, I've realised that there are actually many negative points about globalisation.
In the video, workers can be seen working for long hours, bearing with their headaches and only getting a very little amount of pay. Considering the long hours the workers have worked, they certainly deserve a better pay.
68% of children have their first sexual experience only at the age of 12. This is so ridiculous. How would those children feel? They are too young to know what’s happening and there's nothing they could do about it.
In China, workers are forbidded from drinking water or visiting the toliet, foremans even carry electric shock batons. How could they do that? This shows that the people could do anything, just to gain profits.
What is the purpose of globallisation? If the purpose of globallisation is to make this world a better world, then globallisation does not serve its purpose at all.
It is true that many countries are benefitting from globallisation, but did they spare a thought for those people who are suffering? Is this the high price the people have to pay for globalisation?

Although globalisation serves an important role of making everything more convenient(eg. communication), i think that companies shouldn't force people to work like slaves. The workers are also human and they have their dignity too. They have no rights to force people to work.

The workers are forced to work for long hours, bearing with their headaches, they deserve a better pay. In China, workers are forbidden from drinking water or visiting the toilet, and they have to bear with it because they need that small amount of pay to feed their families.

There's also the problem with toxic rivers that were polluted from shrimp farming. Workers are also working in toxic environment. They deserve the rights to work in a clean environment right?

The companies should not think of profits all the time. They should also be concern for their workers that are working SO hard for them. I think companies should use a better way to earn profits, instead of abusing their workers. The workers also have human rights and companies should not work their workers like slaves.

Globalization in its literal sense is the process of globalizing, transformation of some things into global ones. It can be described as a process by which the people of the world are unified into a single society and functioning together. This process is a combination of economic, technological, sociocultural and political forces.
Effects of globalization:
Industrial - emergence of worldwide production markets and broader access to a range of foreign products for consumers and companies
Financial - emergence of worldwide financial markets and better access to external financing for corporate, national and subnational borrowers
Economic - realization of a global common market, based on the freedom of exchange of goods and capital.
Globalization has made more people come together to strike for their goals in life.
Living in a globalised world, make no boundaries for all.Distance is no longer an obstruct for people to know each other. In my opinion,I think that Globalisation is a great achievement made by everyone, from ancient to now

i pesonally dont think that gobalisation is a very good thing although it will make things more convenient(to developed countries) but to those not so developed one, its somewhat considered unfair?!

Like for the comment on selling the shirts..it can cost Euro 50 but in asia it only cost Euro 5.That means things in the more developed countries cost more than in less developed ones. Then should we say it is unfair to the more developed ones? For the same shirt, it can have so much diffrence in the amount just because one is developed one is not developed.

in a less developed country, the workers' pay is so low even though they worked for so many hours.i also think that it is unfair to the children in the less developed countries, as the clip stated 68% of the children (aged 12-13) had their first sexual experience with foreign tourist. What do they treat them for? It's very unfair to them, abusing a minor.

in china, altough the worked shorter hours, but they are forbiiden to go to the toilets and even drink water. They are even told to carry electric batons.TRY ASkING TH|HE EMPLOYER TO NOT DRINK WATER,CARRY ELECTRIC BATONS AND HOLD THEIR BLADDERS!!!it's like abusing the workers.

i also cannot believe that those branded companies are so cruel to the workers, if not for the workers, can they be considered as branded?

i seriously think that some of the employers are sort of bullying or abusing their workers, and even having sex with minors. it's really not fair to them, therefore i dont support gobalisation

sorry that my english is a bit broken :x

Before the video, I don’t even know the true meaning of the word “Globalisation”. However after watching that video, I think I know what the word “globalisation” stands for. In the video, workers such as underage children are working in harsh conditions and paid a petty sum of salary. To me, this kind of treatment is somewhat similar to abuse. Nevertheless, globalisation is an important process as it directly affects a country’s economy, and that of course have an effect on the welfare/benefits given to the people living in that country by the government. If those people are not there to do those jobs, who else would? Let’s be practical. I may seem like I’m a fan of globalisation (like ClementTan), but I’m not. I agree that globalisation brings along with it profit, economy growth and many other such advantages, but I don’t see eye to eye with how those workers are being treated.

Globalisation – All good and no Bane? To me, globalisation brings both good and bad along with it. It’s just depends on your own perspective. Whether you’re more concern with your ‘human rights’ and can afford to give up all those material comforts (Nike shoes, Converse bags and such), or you can be more self-centered and let those workers suffer without even having the right to complain.

Think more in depth.
